Traffic Laws You Need To Know While Driving In Vegas
Traffic is heavy in Las Vegas if you haven’t noticed. If you drive in Las Vegas, you have noticed. On a busy weekend night, it can take you 30-45 minutes, or more, to travel the length of the four-mile Strip. If you drive in Las Vegas, you should know some basic traffic laws.
Here are what you need to know:
- While driving you cannot text, access the internet, or use a hand held cell phone. It is against the law. You can use a hands-free headset. First offense fine is $50. The fine goes up for each subsequent offense.
- There is a “move over” law in effect. If you are involved in an accident and no one is hurt, you are required to move the vehicles out of traffic as long as it can be done safely. If damages meet or exceed $750 the accident must be reported to DMV. If the police have not investigated, all persons involved must report the accident with 10 days of the accident.
- Like in most states all passengers must wear a seat belt. There are other rules for children age six and under.
- Drivers under 18 years of age are subject to a curfew. They cannot drive between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. There are exceptions.
- Since we are talking about Las Vegas there is a higher chance that someone will be driving while under the influence.

Drivers may not refuse to undergo a blood, breath or urine test as instructed by a police officer.
Blood samples can be taken involuntarily, even for first offenses.
For non-commercial drivers age 21 and over, the legal limit is .08 percent blood alcohol level, or any measurable amount of a controlled substance.
For non-commercial drivers under age 21, the legal limit is .02 percent.
