Lions, and Tigers, and…Oh My!

wild-animals-tiger-water-free-stock-photoRemember the Wizard of Oz? As Dorothy, Tin Man, Lion, and Scarecrow walk down the Yellow Brick Road, they chant, “Lions, and Tigers, and Bears, Oh My!” These four might be right at home on the Strip. Here, we have lions, tigers, and sharks. Sorry, no bears.

There are two places you can visit to see the other kind of wildlife, not the kind found on the Strip every day. Mandalay Bay and the Mirage offer some excellent special venues and escape from the ordinary.

We will start our tour at the south end of the Strip at Mandalay Bay. Here resides Shark Reef. This impressive aquarium will awe and amaze people of all ages. Who would think it possible to see 2000 fish, sea animals, and maybe a sea monster while in Las Vegas. Well, here you can.

Among the exotic mix of sea animals visitors will see piranha, sea turtles, jelly fish, giant rays, saw fish, and even a golden crocodile. As you watch all the beautiful sea creatures, you will walk through a glass tunnel. You actually walk underwater and what a view it is. You have a true close up look at all the aquatic life forms.

If you can stir up a little courage, you can feed the sharks and the stingrays. Shark Reef even has a divers program.

Next door to the aquarium there is an exhibit called Sea Monsters Revealed. This is a new exhibit and presents expertly preserved sea creatures.

Our next stop is the Mirage located mid-Strip. Mirage houses the Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat. Here is another great place to get close up views of dolphins, tigers, and lions.

How would you like to actually play with and train a dolphin? You can do that here. You can get a dolphin to paint something for you too. Bet you don’t have any personalized dolphin art in your home yet, right? What a great conversation piece and fun for the kids.

There are one hour “behind the scenes tours” available. There is also offered, and get this, “Yoga with the Dolphins.” Now this is different.
