shutterstock_1958797702014 was a year of great growth in Las Vegas as far as hotels are concerned. With the exception of the Lucky Dragon that opened this past December, there has been little new hotel development on the Strip. The last two years have been stagnant.

The next few years will hopefully bring some new hotel growth when the Alon and Resort World Vegas projects on the north end of the Strip are completed. This has to be said with some reservations because both projects have suffered roadblocks that have stalled construction.

However, 2014 did bring us some good new hotel choices. One, the Cromwell rose out of the framework of the former Bill’s Gambling Hall & Casino. It is one of the newer boutique hotels that are popping up and down the Strip.

2014 also brought us the Linq. Again, not a brand new construction, but a transformation of the old Imperial Palace that was branded the Quad and finally the Linq. The Linq has a unique feature in that it offers rooms with bunk beds that is great for friends traveling together. There is also a great Linq shopping area that leads to the high roller.

The Delano is a smoke free, gaming free, upscale resort. This structure was previously The Hotel.

Vegas lovers especially remember the Sahara. It is now the SLS. It is another makeover. All of these new hotels are makeovers and not new structures. But, they all have new personalities and looks.

All of these hotels are on the Strip. There were no new hotels in the downtown area except the Las Vegas Grande that opened in November, 2013. It wasn’t totally new either, but resurrected from the former Lady Luck.

There will be some new development downtown in the next few years though. The owners of the D have bought up the properties of the Las Vegas Club, Mermaids, and Glitter Gulch. It’s still not known exactly what will be built in those areas.

Here is an article that talks about the top ten newest hotels including the ones we have shared.
