Expectations Are High For Vegas In 2017

2017 promises to be another banner year as far as the number of visitors is concerned. Expectations are that 43 million people will come to Sin City this year. This is good news.

Then, there are some expectations that Las Vegas will finally get its own NFL team in the near future. Whether or not, or when, the Oakland Raiders will relocate to Las Vegas is still a fluid situation. However, Vegas does have a new hockey team. Sports is likely be a much larger part of Vegas life in the next few years.

The only new hotel to open in 2016 was the Lucky Dragon. There does not appear to be any hope of any hotel openings in 2017. However, there will  be the start of construction of one or two projects that will open in 2018 or 2019. Resorts World Las Vegas is one large project we are watching.

The popular show, Rock of Ages, that has been at home at the Venetian moved a few miles to the west to reside at Rio. This left a hole at the Venetian. After a 2.5 million dollar remodel, a new venue called The Dorsey has opened. From their website:

The Dorsey is a high-design, memorable cocktail spot for the worldly, curious, and engaged.

A rich palette of gold and black infused with an old-school service pedigree, The Dorsey inspires a “devil-may-care” sense of possibility and is known for quality and discretion.  Read more about The Dorsey here.

70-year old Cher, even after completing her farewell tour is not ready to hang up her vocal chords. She will kick off a run at Monte Carlo next week on February 8th. According to Lavishvegas.com:

The “Turn Back Time” singer promises this show will be a feast for the senses. Inspired by the unique features and state-of-the-art technology of the Park Theater, Cher’s production team chose to incorporate plenty of CGI in order to show off the theater’s custom 80-ft X 40-ft LED screen wall with 4K-quality resolution. Also, in the entertainment arena, Backstreet Boys will take up residency at Planet Hollywood beginning March 1st. At this point 18 performances are scheduled.

In conclusion, 2017 won’t be a year of new hotel openings, but many new shows, a smaller venues will open. And, there is always the comings and goings of restaurants.
