Losers Built Las Vegas-Don’t Be One!

Never forget that Las Vegas, with its awesome buildings and lavish casinos, was built with the money of losers and suckers. Don’t be one.

P.T. Barnum is credited with saying, “A sucker is born every minute.” Whoever did say it is correct. All of us have been a sucker at one time or another. However, in Las Vegas you get the opportunity on a continuing basis, especially if you play the casino games. Each game has its own sucker bet.

What is a sucker bet anyway? There are various definitions if you research it. The easy definition is simply a bet with a high house edge. It’s the type of bet that appeals to our greed but more often than not, satisfies the house’s greed instead.

Regardless, of what games you play, you will usually find sucker bets as part of the game. These are tempting because they usually have high payouts. It appeals to our “get rich quick” nature. Let’s talk about a few of the common sucker bets you will find.

One of the most popular games is blackjack. Blackjack has several sucker bets. One is when you have a blackjack and the dealer is showing an ace. He, or she, will offer you even money before the dealer’s undercard is shown. You can take even money instead of 3 to 2 or 6 to 5 (a sucker game) or hope the dealer does not have blackjack. If he does you simply push.

However, even money is a sucker bet. Don’t take it. If you don’t take it the odds are that you will win and the dealer will not have blackjack 69.26% of the time. You win! For more on this bet read what Dr. Blackjack has to say about the even money offer: Click Here

There is side bets in blackjack. These are sucker bets. There is usually a small circle to the right of each player for an extra bet on each hand. There are many variations.

I recently played a blackjack game and the side bet was based on poker. If your two cards and the first card of the dealer made up a winning poker hand such as a straight, a flush, or three of a kind, the player would win a payout of 5 to 30 times his bet. Not bad, but the odds of winning are low. These are fun to play and a lot of people at my table played it, but it is not a good bet. Directly in line with the math, most people lost their bets.

In craps, there are some bets that are found in the center of the playing table. These are “single roll bets.” These are called prop or proposition bets and are sucker bets.

Craps is far more complicated than other casino games because of the many types of bets offered. One easy thing to remember is don’t bet those bets found in the middle of the playing table.

Craps is a game you do not want to play unless you know what you are doing. An exception is to simply play the “pass” or “do not pass” lines which are almost even money bets. Here is a very thorough article on the sucker bets found in craps. Read It Here

Roulette has a house edge of 5.26% except for the 0,00,1,2,3 combination bet when the house edge leaps to 7.89%. This is the sucker bet of this game although the game itself has a high house edge.

In closing, you can say that slots are sucker bets because the odds are so bad overall as are the odds in the money or wheel of fortune wheel and keno. Wisdom states to stay with the games where your chances of winning are highest.
